ISIS or ISIL?
Obama and his people keep referring to ISIL while almost everyone else calls them ISIS, which stands for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Does anybody ever wonder why Obama prefers ISIL? ISIL stands for Islamic State in Iraq and Levant which is the name they started with. The Levant historically referred to the Eastern Mediterranean lands extending from Greece to the Sinai and now encompasses the territory currently occupied by Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan and includes the Palestinian areas. So ISIL in the minds of the terrorist group was simply aspirational. But instead of completely taking over Syria and moving south into Lebanon and Jordan the terrorist group decided to move east into Iraq. That is when they shortened their preferred name to just Islamic State. But most of the media not wanting to recognize their aspirations stayed with ISIS. So that juxtaposes the question: Why does our president prefer the aspirational name ISIL instead of ISIS?
